AMAA Runner Fundraiser Page

Setting Up Your Fundraising Campaign

1.  Follow this link to the fundraising page: www.active.com/donate/youthfitness.

2.  Click on "Become A Fundraiser." This will take you to a login page for Active.com where you'll need to create an account if you don't already have one. If you are a repeat fundraiser, you may need to create a new account. Otherwise the funds raised last year will be shown on your 2012 page as the amount you've already received (and this may deter contributors if they think you've already raised plenty).

3.  On the campaign page, you'll be prompted to create a title for your page and web address. You will also need to add a "Welcome Message" in a text box. This message is shown on your page to describe your fundraising efforts and request donations. Please feel free to copy and paste the text below. (The <p> and </p> are html code and are needed to show where paragraphs begin and end.)

Sample Welcome Message:

<p>I'm raising money to run the 2012 Boston Marathon and to help with the fight against youth obesity in the U.S. by teaming up with the American Medical Athletic Association (AMAA).</p>

<p>Over 30 percent of children ages six to 11 are overweight, 15 percent are obese, and three out of five children ages nine to 13 don't participate in sports or other coached physical activities outside of school. These overweight and unfit children are more likely to remain unhealthy in adulthood and have an increased risk for developing life-threatening medical conditions such as Type II diabetes and heart disease. </p>

<p>Donations made on my behalf will help me reach my goal of running the Marine Corps Marathon and will allow AMAA and the American Running Association (its sister organization) to support their joint "Youth Fitness Programs Campaign." The campaign's central national event is the "National Run A Mile Days" which takkes place the first week in May each year. Training materials and onsite incentives are provided to all participants. </p>

<p>Please consider donating. Any amount will help me get closer to my goal of running the Boston Marathon and will support these two non-profit organizations as they work hard to deter youth obesity through fun and motivating programs. </p>

You can further personalize your page by adding an image and changing the template and/or colors. You can also set it up to show the amount of the donations and the top contributors.

5. Do you need to collect some donations by check or cash? Feel free to use the AMAA donation receipts. Print a copy and cut it into thirds (there are three receipts per page). The receipts can be provided to donators for their tax files. Checks should be written to the American Medical Athletic Association, or AMAA.
