What is the “RUN the Boston Marathon with AMAA
program?

It is a unique opportunity to run in the prestigious Boston Marathon without the need for a qualifying time, as well as the chance to earn Category 1 CME credits at our two-day symposium. Meet up with fellow physicians and medical professionals for three days of learning, networking and running.

How does it work?
For over 30 years, the Boston Athletic Association has encouraged the education and participation of the American Medical Athletic Association’s physicians and medical professionals at Boston by providing AMAA (formerly AMJA) with a limited number of marathon slots for our members. AMAA helped start the element of providing medical services at Boston which became the standard for care at all other marathons.

How does the “RUN the Boston Marathon with AMAA program” support the American Medical Athletic Association?
This program is AMAA’s top fundraising event.  It allows AMAA to continue to develop educational programs on exercise and nutrition as well as to continue to educate medical professionals and the public.  Your support and participation is vital to the mission of AMAA and is greatly appreciated.  Our tax identification number is available upon request.

Who is eligible to participate?
You must be:

  • A current AMAA member (you can join AMAA or renew your membership at www.amaasportsmed.org)

  • A physician or allied health care professional

  • Able to complete the marathon in less than six hours

What is the American Medical Athletic Association (AMAA)?
AMAA is the professional division of the American Running Association.  It was founded in 1969 by Ronald Lawrence, MD, PhD, as the American Medical Joggers Association (AMJA), to educate and motivate fellow physicians and health care professionals to disseminate information about exercise and nutrition to their patients.  AMAA provides credible information on training, diet, injury prevention, and sports medicine to assist these professionals in motivating their patients to become active and to lead healthy lifestyles.  One of AMAA’s programs is an effort to spread the word about hyponatremia to athletes, doctors, and the public.

Refund Policy:
There are NO REFUNDS unless the following situation occurs: The AMAA entries are sold out by January 30th and there is someone on the waiting list willing to buy your marathon entry.
